The results of this "end of term" club match can be downloaded here.
"The Archers" at The Tate
To celebrate the "Tate's" purchase of "The Archers", a painting by Sir Joshua Reynolds, the gallery is to show alongside it a video made by Lambeth teenagers earlier in the year of them learning to shoot at Aquarius being taught by a Club Coach. According to Eric Jackson of GNAS the Lambeth archers show better "form" than those of Joshua Reynolds - why not judge for yourself and visit the Tate which is on the embankment at Millbank, nearest tube Pimlico.
Winter League Matches
Tony has sent spreadsheets with the fixtures for the winter league matches - Portsmouth, Worcester and Frostbite. I have combined them into one file - you can download it here.
Junior Western Tournament
Half term Junior Western Tournament at Aquarius. It was decided to organise some junior western rounds as a tournament during the Autumn half term. At quite short notice 30 or so archers plus some parents enjoyed 8 dozen arrows in some very mild weather. The day was made more interesting by SKY TV filming the event and interviewing many of the juniors for a short programme they are making on junior archery. The Club was also honoured by the Tournament being opened by the Lord Mayor of Westminster Tim Joiner and being closed by Ed Goldsmith European Field Archery Goldsmith who also presented the medals. Download the results (MS Word doc) here.
Laleham Albion
Malcolm Campbell won the prestigious Laleham Albion, the last major outdoor target shoot in London by two points from Tom Firth. Congratulations to Malcolm.

World Field Archery Championships in Croatia - July 2004
Britain became world team field archery champions in Croatia. The team of Chris White (compound), Alan Wills (freestyle) and Alan Lake's long time adversary from Belfast Peter Mulligan beat the best the world could offer.

In the individual medals Welsh school boy Gavin Howells took silver - a tremendous achievement. Chris White top compound archer in all disciplines Target indoor and out plus Field too of course and took the World title by one point from an American rival. Last but by no means least Welsh teacher and Gavin's step mum took the bronze medal in the Women's barebow so not a bad haul !
Heathrow Youth Games 2004
Haringey came 4th out of 19 with Barnet 7th and Camden probably 16th or 17th. So no team medals in spite of Haringey being in 2nd place at the end of the 1st distance. However individually some Aquarius juniors did win medals. Notably Nadine Bleach 3rd in her age group. Max Welch who shot out of his socks to take a silver and young Ben Humphrys who took a silver. All Aquarius members shot really well and we hope they had an enjoyable day.

Re: LONDON HEATHROW YOUTH GAMES, 2002
A Team of young Archers again took part in the 'London Heathrow Youth Games at Crystal Palace Stadium, on Saturday 13th July 2002. These Archers are members of 'The Aquarius Archery Club' which is situated in East Finchley London N2, and they represented the London Borough of Haringey.

The team were four boys and two girls:

John Goss & Richard Pettifer Shot the 'Windsor Round
(3 Dozen arrows @ 60/50/40/ yards)

Nadine Bleach (Miss) & Jack Gillings Patterson Shot the Short Windsor
(3 Dozen arrows @ 50/40/30/ yards)

Jennifer Edwards Miss (age 9) & James Demetriou Shot the Junior Windsor
(3 Dozen arrows @ 40/30/20/ yards.

The Team from Haringey came a very respectful third place out of sixteen 'Boroughs' this is the highest position obtained in the archery section by Haringey, and as Team Manager I am very proud of them all. The Aquarius Archery Club also had members representing the Borough's of Barnet & Camden.

Thanks must go to Burk Gravis Senior Sport Development Officer for his tireless work in helping to organize the games for the Borough of Haringey.

Tony R. Francis.
Haringey Team Captain.

The Middlesex County Championship - From Roger Sale:
The Middlesex County Championship was held on Sunday 9th June at Spelthorne Archers ground at Sunbury. Spelthorne hosted the County shoot along side their annual championship after the unfortunate loss of the usual venue at Greenwood Osterley.

Three Aquarius archers entered the Championship (Ted Culver, Clive Erlebach and Roger Sale) with Maggie Woolf judging the event. Unfortunately no ladies or juniors entered the event this year.

The day started bright but windy but deteriorated rapidly after lunch with periods of torrential rain. The weather forced the organiser into terminating the shoot at 10 dozen arrows, although the weather improved significantly for prize-giving.

Ted made the highest score of the three and was finally placed second in the county. Roger was placed sixth in the county.

Aquarius win at Hinxworth - by Tony Francis
Aquarius Archers were cordially invited to the very first Invitation shoot a "Western Round" by Hinxworth A.C. Also attending were "Kestrels A.C. This shoot included the Club Championships of Hinxworth Archers.
Firstly may I as the Team Organiser of Aquarius thank David & Marianne Osmond for putting on a the shoot, and to the Hinxworth Archers who did most of the work making it such a good day's shooting. A super tea was laid on after the presentation of the Medals and a team trophy.
Aquarius Archers won the Team Award, and Nadine Bleach won the Junior Girl's prize. Our team members are as follows: Ray Stevens (returning to archery after after many years absence) Andrew Scrimshaw (new archer 2001) Terry Strongman (Second year archer) Richard Pettifer (Junior Boy) and Nadine Bleach ( Junior Girl). An assorted lot but a winning combination. Well Done.
This was a handicapped Western Round, and will be a yearly event for many years to come, so get yourself invited. Aquarius will be defending their trophy next year as proud winners of the first years event.
Again our Thanks to David & Marianne and Hinxworth Archers (Posted 16/8/2001).

Alan finds silver in Wales
Club archer Alan Lake shot in one of the first UK prize money field shoots and gained second barebow place after a closely fought contest in the barebow event. The "Pentref Challenge" was held at the famous South Wales venue in in the Rhonda Valley on a very steep wooded mountainside. Torrential rain on Saturday made conditions very difficult and several targets were excluded by the judges for the Sunday event as they were considered too dangerous to shoot. Local man Geoff Williams took the barebow gold. Other class winners included current world barebow and European Champion Trish Lovell, Chris White and Sam Stretton compond with John Shales and Cumbrian Jackie Wilinson taking golds in the freestyle class (Posted 8/8/2001).
